Future bright for Cornwall Tourism Award Finalists

November 2002

Growing enterprise Cornwall Classic Car Hire featured highly at this year’s coveted ‘Cornwall Tourism Awards’ as a finalist in the category for ‘outstanding customer service’. Based near Bodmin this Devon & Cornwall-wide service offers a range of classic British sportscars for self-drive touring holidays, special gifts and occasions.

This nomination is the culmination of an excellent year for the region’s only multi-marque classic car hire company, which also gained a ‘highly commended’ award for ‘innovation and promotion’.

The strength of their entry was based upon the bespoke service Cornwall Classic Car Hire offers the region’s buoyant visitor trade who may now enjoy a very special motoring break. Touring the Westcountry in a 1948 MG, ‘Inspector Morse’ Mk II Jag or a legendary E type is a novel, fun way to explore the beautiful coast and countryside Devon & Cornwall has to offer.

With the local emphasis increasingly focused on lengthening the tourist season, combining a classic sportscar with excellent accommodation, cuisine and year-round scenery has become a tantalising prospect for growing numbers of short-breakers. With a delivery/collection service, suggested routes, itineraries and information about local attractions, this service is far more than just another car hire firm.

As Rob Constant put it “I am absolutely delighted to have featured in the last three for ‘outstanding customer service’ at this year’s inaugural tourism awards, something made even more pleasing as it is just 18 months since we started Cornwall Classic Car Hire! Since June 2001 we have come a very long way, and I am particularly proud that we can compete on an equal footing with much larger tourism establishments throughout the region”.

When asked about the secret behind good customer service Rob explained that “every Cornwall Classic Car Hire client meets at least one business partner which can be a key benefit to our customer’s experience. Our bespoke approach I believe is the West country antidote to ‘mass-produced customer care’ often exhibited elsewhere in the UK business world, typified by telephone queues and off hand service! If you deal with people who really understand the benefits of customer care you are already half-way to good service.”

In a time where competition is increasingly intense in world-wide tourism, focusing on standards and quality is a must for Cornwall as it builds upon the success of recent years with market-leaders such as Tim Smit and the Eden Project, the Rick Stein phenomenon in Padstow and of course Hotel Tresanton at St. Mawes. However, it makes real sense to focus on exceeding customer expectations as this can have such a positive influence on nut & bolt business performance. Customer service counts!

Rob looks forward to putting together an even stronger challenge for next year’s tourism awards and eagerly awaits the 2003 season.
