Day 4: Tour the Tors...

Experience - Exmoor & Dartmoor

Day 4: Tour the Tors...

After a leisurely breakfast perhaps spend this first day of your holiday viewing the breathtaking natural beauty of the Dartmoor Tors. These craggy outcrops of rock provide some of the finest views of the Dartmoor landscape as well as some challenging rock-climbing for those with the energy!

Many of the Tors are close to ancient historic sites like stone circles and medieval settlements, so there is more than just the view to study and enjoy! Hound Tor is supposed to be the inspiration for Conan Doyle’s masterpiece, The Hound of the Baskervilles because, according to local legend, phantom hounds were seen racing across the moor here to hurl themselves on the tomb of a much hated squire, following his death in 1677.

There are over 40 tors on Dartmoor and most of them are accessible to the public, although some are on the three designated MOD live firing ranges! Your holiday information pack will guide you to the best...

Respect must always be given to this natural, untamed moorland because rapidly changing weather conditions can take the unwary by surprise. (No wonder Conan Doyle chose Dartmoor as the venue for his classic!) There will, of course, be advice in your holiday information pack on how to avoid the dangers, whilst enjoying a stimulating day out!

With breathtaking views aplenty we will give you routes for the very best walks and visits to the most picturesque and historic places. We can also organise other activities for you such as fishing, shooting, horse riding, cycling and rock climbing.
