Bed & Breakfast near Boscastle...

In this ‘example’ Classic Escape, you could stay at The Old Rectory, a Grade II listed property a few miles outside of Boscastle, overlooking the beautiful Valency valley on the coast of North Cornwall.

Owner run, this comfortable four bedroom country house style bed & breakfast is steeped in history; Thomas Hardy stayed here as a young architect and met and fell in love with ‘Emma’. The romance led to the novel “A Pair of Blue Eyes”, and to some of the finest poetry ever created by this famous literary figure.

Today the house has been tastefully updated and decorated in period style whilst offering more than the occasional glimpse of the ‘Good Life’. Delicious country breakfasts cooked on the Aga with free range eggs from the walled garden, are served in the ‘Entrance Hall’ along with locally sourced bread, and home reared and made bacon and sausages. Accompanied by Fair-trade tea and coffee, as well as home made marmalade and preserves, a great start to the day is provided.

Comfortable bedrooms are tastefully decorated and are all centrally heated, ensuite, with flat screen TVs and enjoy country or garden views. Whilst exploring three acres of garden, sit on Hardy’s seat, a place as peaceful today as when Thomas and Emma sat here over 100 years ago.…

Guests are welcome to enjoy a glass of their own wine in the sitting room – no corkage is charged or on the viewing deck overlooking the Valency valley and, further, the sea. Evening meals of simple, good food, are also available at The Old Rectory with something of a ‘River Cottage’ flavour to the menu, where food metres rather than food miles often best describes the journey to your plate.

The Old Rectory holds a Gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, a Breakfast Award, as well as having held five stars for guest accommodation since first opening in 2006.
