Day 4: Explore Padstow...

After a lovely breakfast and a leisurely start to the day, why not explore the nearby fishing town of Padstow…

Made most famous by Rick Stein, the appeal of this pretty fishing port is a blend of the town’s estuary location, interesting past, and a contemporary, fashionable style. Set against the pretty backdrop of the Camel estuary, streets of cafes, restaurants, art galleries and clothing-retailers – not to mention traditional Cornish pasty outlets – mix with yachts and fishing boats in the harbour.

Padstow has a long and ancient history, originally dating back as far as pre-Roman days, making for an interesting day-out as old and new co-exist in the modern day. The harbour is naturally the heart of Padstow but we’ll help you see more than just the usual tourist ‘lap’ of the town. There are a number of gems, which, when picked out in your holiday information pack, give intriguing clues to the rich and varied history of the town. There are also some stunning walks we can give you routes for, some lovely beaches, not to mention a four hundred year old Elizabethan manor, the setting for many a film or period drama.

We can also arrange a wide selection of visits and activities – ranging from cycling the Camel trail, (a delightful cycle path following the Camel estuary, running the route of the old Great Western Railway between Padstow and Wadebridge and great for wildlife spotters) to fishing trips, surfing lessons, waterskiing, wakeboarding, kite surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and coasteering for the most adventurous. There are also nearby riding stables and golf courses but, if you simply prefer a visit to a thriving Cornish vineyard or an historic house, we are just as well placed to assist.

When booking your holiday with Classic Escapes discuss your leisure interests with your dedicated holiday organiser.

Naturally we will pass on our lunch and evening meal recommendations, making reservations for you as appropriate. Of course there are the Stein venues but also some lesser known gems…We keep up to date on where’s best.
