• Perfect base for exploring Dartmoor
  • Close to Buckland Abbey
  • Excellent walking country

Yelverton is a large village on the south western edge of Dartmoor and is the geographical focal point for an area called Drakes Dartmoor. Sir Francis Drake was born just a few miles from Yelverton and through the wealth amassed from his travels was able to buy nearby Buckland Abbey.

There are many cycle trails and walks to enjoy in this part of Dartmoor and during the course of almost any excursion or walk across the Moor you will find a variety of human imprints: prehistoric megaliths, tombs, mediaeval longhouses, tin mining remains, quarries and farms.

For those of you who have a passion for paperweights then a visit to the Yelverton Paperweight Centre is a must. Here you will find hundreds of antique and modern paperweights collected by Bernard Broughton over many years and also oil and watercolours by renowned Dartmoor artist David William Young.
