Tate St Ives

Tate St Ives

  • Cornwall´s largest gallery
  • Wide variety of events & exhibitions
  • Showcases new and established artists
  • Rooftop restaurant & shop

Tate St Ives opened in 1993, on a spectacular site overlooking Porthmeor Beach, and presents exhibitions of international Modern and contemporary art, alongside works from the Tate Collection.

Three seasons of exhibitions each year show major figures in contemporary art, ensuring that if you visit more than once a year you will see something different every time. St Ives and the St Ives Modernist artists provide the artistic foundations for Tate St Ives.

The gallery, designed by David Shalev and Eldred Evans, was built to celebrate the town’s unique place in the history of British art and Modernism. The building has three storeys with a panoramic view of the beautiful bay at St Ives. The rooftop restaurant sources its ingredients from local Cornish suppliers and the menu starts with breakfasts and goes through to delicious afternoon tea with fresh Newlyn Harbour white crab meat sandwiches and homemade cakes and scones.

Access is available to everyone at Tate St Ives, there are wheelchairs available and lifts to each floor, disabled toilets and ramps. Guide dogs are also welcomed.

St Ives is a beautiful seaside town with large sandy beaches and a variety of shops, galleries and narrow streets with tiny fishermen’s cottages tucked away. A fabulous place to explore for the day while visiting this iconic art gallery.
