Ready Money Cove

Ready Money Cove

  • Sandy, safe, sheltered beach
  • Tidal rock pools
  • Easy access to St Catherines Castle
  • Dogs allowed from 1st October to Easter

Ready Money Cove is a small, sheltered, sandy beach close to the mouth of the River Fowey Estuary. Encircled on one side, by the medieval part of Fowey and, on the other, by St Catherine´s Castle.

There are tidal rock-pools which are huge fun to explore and a gently sloping sandy beach which is safe for small children. Above the cove is the former coach house which was the home of author, Daphne du Maurier for a few years during the Second World War.

Local legend has it that a mermaid frequents the cove during winter storms!

It’s worth climbing up to St Catherines Castle for some spectacular views of the estuary. The castle remains are now owned by English Heritage but it was originally built to protect the port of Fowey from French invasion. There are also regular ferries to Polruan, which sits opposite Fowey and is a delightful, ancient fishing village, famous for its boat building heritage.

There is a small car park near to the cove or a large one in Fowey. Toilet facilities are available and access is good. Please note: Dogs are not allowed between Easter and the 30th September.
