Mevagissey is a picturesque fishing village on the south east coast of Cornwall and was once a major pilchard port. It has a colourful history of boat building and smuggling and is a busy harbour today.

Retaining much of its traditional character Mevagissey has some beautiful fisherman’s cottages, and you can sit and watch the fishing boats come in on one of the benches around the harbour. There are plenty of mackerel fishing boat trips available if you want to catch your own supper.

From April through to the end of September you can catch a ferry to Fowey travelling through St Austell Bay, you can often see dolphins on this trip. Each year at the end of June, Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, floral dances through the streets and finally at the end of the week the carnival and fantastic firework display.A small park in Mevagissey is popularly known as "Hitler´s Walk". It was named for a district councillor in the 1930s who was nicknamed after the Nazi leader for his officious habit of walking up and down checking on the boats moored in the harbour.

Take a walk around the maze of narrow streets and explore the small shops, pubs and restaurants, all of which offer the freshest fish dishes! If you enjoy a walk there are plenty of paths up out of the village to the cliffs above – Mevagissey lies in a valley – from where the views are fantastic. Mevagissey is also close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden.
