Lizard Peninsula

Lizard Peninsula

  • Sheltered fishing villages
  • Beautiful walks & wildlife
  • Picturesque holiday accommodation

The Lizard Peninsula on the South West coast of Cornwall incorporates the Helford River, Helston and Porthleven in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is the turning point of one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the Lizard has been a continuous source of inspiration for artists and writers for hundreds of years. The rocks and cliffs of the coastline have for centuries provided a sheltered haven to the beautiful fishing villages that remain almost unchanged to this day.

The Lizard is also home to England’s rarest breeding bird, the Cornish Chough, there are miles of coastal walks, heaps of wildlife and some of the most breathtaking views found in Cornwall. Home to Trebah Gardens, the Seal Sanctuary, Trevarno Gardens and the Lizard Wirelesss Station and Marconi centre, there is plenty to do on days out if you are feeling energetic.

Amongst the many pretty coves on the Lizard Peninsula are Cadgwith, Mullion and Kynance. There are numerous beaches and lots of centres for water sports such as windsurfing at Coverack. Dolphins can sometimes be spotted frolicking in the water close to the shore.

The Lizard is also home to Cornwall’s favourite chocolates – Trenance Chocolates where you can visit and view their chocolates being made, taste them and take time to choose just which ones you might like to take home – not that you’ll be able to keep them that long!

Staying on the Lizard is one of the most relaxing, time stopping experiences. This is not a place to stay if you like the bright lights, noise and nightclubs, but for those wishing to completely unwind and recharge your batteries you couldn’t ask for more. There is a good choice of Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, Self-Catering accommodation and camping, and some lovely pubs, restaurants and cafes to indulge in those clotted cream teas.
