Day 3: Explore Heddon Valley & Arlington Court...

Experience - Exmoor, Dartmoor and South & North Coast of Cornwall

Day 3: Explore Heddon Valley & Arlington Court...

After a lovely breakfast and a leisurely start to the day, perhaps spend this morning visiting the beautiful, unspoilt valley of Heddon on the North coast of Exmoor.

This deep, lush wooded valley has oak and ash with some rare Whitebeams, and the waterside meadows are full of wild flowers. Access to the valley is by winding lanes, but your holiday information pack will guide you and provide a selection of walks so you can fully appreciate the beauty of the valley and surrounding countryside - described as “the favorite landscape of the Romantic Poets”!

After lunch at one of our recommended hostelries, and, if it interests you, perhaps take a drive down the Atlantic Highway to Arlington Court. Built in 1820 by John Chichester this magnificent neoclassical-style mansion remained the family home of the Chichester family until the death of Rosalie Chichester in 1949. Now it is home to the National Trust Carriage Collection: over 50 carriages from the humble Hansom Cab to the magnificent State Coach. It also houses a huge collection of items brought together by the family, many of them by Rosalie Chichester from her round-the-world trips...

We can also organise other activities for you like pony riding, fishing, wild life cruises, golf or simply head up again on to the moor and follow another delightful walk we can provide. When booking your holiday with Classic Escapes discuss your leisure interests with your dedicated holiday organizer.

We will also pass on our lunch and evening meal recommendations, making reservations for you as appropriate. We keep up to date on where’s best!
