Day 8: Nostalgia in & around Bodmin...

After a lovely breakfast, why not spend today at a different pace, in and around the town of Bodmin.

The town started in the 6th Century around the religious foundation of St. Petroc. It continued to grow as a religious centre and by the 13th Century there were churches, chapels, hospitals and guild houses, plus a Friary and a Priory. These all survived until Henry VIII dissolved the church in 1538, when the buildings were all sold. Most have now disappeared, but some surviving relics can still be seen at various locations around Bodmin.

Many of the finer buildings to be seen in Bodmin today date from the early 19th Century, since Bodmin used to be the county town of Cornwall. The most imposing of these is the Shire Hall, formerly Assize Courts which along with the square exists as the hub of the town.

Today Bodmin is a bustling town in the centre of Cornwall, and we will help you see rather more than just the everyday shops of the town. There are a number of gems, which, when picked out, give intriguing clues to the rich and varied history of this former county town. These can all be found in your holiday information pack.

We can also organise other activities in the area for you to enjoy such as golf, horse riding, cycling, and fishing.
