Dartmoor has been described as southern England’s greatest expanse of wilderness. This is not to say that it is a barren empty place but rather a vast, inspiring landscape full of beauty, charm and history. Arthur Conan Doyle said “the longer one stays here the more does the spirit of the moor sink into one’s soul…” Much of the charm of Dartmoor comes from its stark scenery, granite tors and beautiful heather, but there is also a rich history here: prehistoric settlements, relics of nineteenth century quarrying, the famous prison at Princetown as well as fascinating, small country towns and villages….

South Cornwall: With a delightful coastline, numerous idyllic fishing villages and picturesque estuaries, the south coast of Cornwall provides a contrastingly softer landscape. Favoured through the ages by sailors and gardeners alike, south Cornwall is a lush coastal mecca....

Far West of Cornwall: This incorporates the two peninsulas of Penwith and the Lizard which in turn are the most westerly and southerly points of the British Isles. In both cases there is almost an ‘island’ feel, as the sea dominates the shape and character of the area. Let Classic Escapes bring together some of the very best bits for you to experience.

With amazing moorland and coastline just waiting to be explored, we can point out the very best walks, arrange visits to the most picturesque and historic places, as well as ensuring you eat at the best fooderies. The standard of food in Cornwall and Devon is at an all time high and we can point you in the right direction for those right at the cutting edge of this burgeoning local industry. Perhaps a traditional fisherman’s pub is more your scene? We’ll point out the best.

For your accommodation we have handpicked several fine hotels; high on service, location and charm, where nothing is too much trouble. Experience their stylish hospitality and escape to a place where high style and a slower pace of life happily rub shoulders.

There is a whole raft of activities we can arrange depending upon your particular interest areas...ranging from country pursuits such as river-fishing, shooting, horse riding, and rock climbing, to a plethora of water sports activities, such as kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, jet-ski hire, powerboat lessons etc. for the more adventurous, to the slower pursuits of cycle hire, fishing trips, boat hire (sail or be sailed) and the simple pastime of pottering around picturesque fishing villages, full of art galleries and quaint little shops. Perhaps historic houses, gardens and museums are more your thing? Let us know what floats your boat and we’ll find it for you.
